Category - New Zealand wool. And there? Soft Wool blankets made of New Zealand wool and other blankets also made of 100% New Zealand wool...

more One of them costs PLN 1,190 and the other PLN 759? What is this all about? We are in a hurry to explain because very often we receive a request from our customers to explain what the real difference is between these two products, even though both are made of 100% New Zealand wool.

Soft Wool Plaids

Professionally, blankets, not rugs, but we use the word "blanket" universally, as a general name for the product. Soft Wool blankets are produced in Poland, in a small factory at the foot of the Beskids. They are woven on an almost 100-year-old loom, according to the traditional method of weaving craft, operated by a professional weaver, once a master weaver. He also has this title. The yarn used to produce these blankets comes from New Zealand, supplied by a German distributor. Why? Because it is better than Polish or European wool, considering the purpose, i.e. creating a cozy and warm blanket. The wool is dyed to our special order, the color recipe is not shared with any other client of the factory. The fringes of the blankets are rolled... by hand! Yes, by hand! This makes this product unique and special. Then the blankets are scratched to pull the woolen, small threads to the surface and achieve a feeling of softness in the grip. The weight of such a blanket is approximately 550Gsm (i.e. thick, quite heavy).

New Zealand Wool Blankets

Blankets that are not in the Soft Wool category but are still 100% New Zealand wool are machine-made in a modern weaving mill specializing in wool products such as blankets, pillows, ponchos and shawls, supplying mainly the Scandinavian market. Their production is faster, easier and slightly cheaper. Hence the large difference in the price of these two products. However, each of them has exactly the same thermoregulatory, hypoallergenic and health properties - they are made of the same type of wool. We choose the colors from a much narrower color card than "whatever you want", which is the case with the colors of Soft Wool blankets. The weight of this type of blanket is max 480Gsm (i.e. thick, but still a bit lighter than Soft Wool).

Merino wool blankets

Here the matter is simple: this blanket differs from the others in the type of wool used. Merino wool is not the same as classic New Zealand wool. Merino comes from a special breed of sheep - Merino, living not only in New Zealand but also in Australia. Merino sheep are also bred in Europe. Merino wool is delicate, merino yarn is much thinner than classic yarn. It does not bite, it is soft and pleasant to the touch. That is why blankets recommended for children are so often made of merino wool. Our merino blanket has a grammage of 270Gsm, the difference in thickness is therefore quite large, but the heating properties are very similar. Merino wool has gained its popularity precisely because of the ratio of yarn thickness to its thermoregulatory properties. That is why, for example, thermal underwear is made of it.

Is there a difference in care?

We recommend dry cleaning all types of blankets. The washing process in water can be troublesome due to the absolute prohibition of spinning and wringing - wool shrinks under the influence of warm water but also spinning. Wringing, on the other hand, can cause creases to be remembered. However, wool can be washed in water - cold, dried flat or "shaking off" excess water (because water does not soak into it but runs off it) and hung up. It is also very useful to use a clothes brush from time to time to comb out the pilling. You can then spray the blanket with water and comb it in the direction of the pile.
